Allen F. Tancher, DVM
Dr. Allen F. Tancher was born and raised in Littleton, CO – about four miles from where he opened Rocky Mountain Small Animal Hospital in 1992. He’s a hometown son, having graduated from Heritage High School. Dr. Tancher is a general veterinary practitioner and on Feb. 17, 2012, he celebrated his 20th year in business.
“My parents took me with them when our animals needed to visit the veterinarian. I loved the office, the smells and the sounds were unique to a veterinary clinic,” said Dr. Tancher on what got him inspired to become an animal doctor. “From the first time I went and all the times after that, I could remember I wanted to help the sick and injured pets.”
Dr. Tancher attended Colorado State University and majored in Microbiology and Chemistry. He was awarded his DVM Degree from the Ross School of Veterinary Medicine in 1989, where he graduated with High Honors and was Valedictorian of his class. Dr. Tancher is certified in the use of surgical laser technology and some of his professional interests include internal medicine, soft tissue surgery and bone plating. He is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, Denver Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
“What I like most about being a veterinarian is working with the animals, but what really is gratifying is the ability to treat the sick and injured animals without restriction and being able to return them to their loving owners cured, healed or at least much better off than when they came in,” Dr. Tancher said about what continues to motivate him after 20 years. “Having owners that allow us to treat their animals to the best of our ability, as professionals, is truly rewarding.”
He said that some of the most rewarding cases he sees are the “dogs and cats with severely broken legs that I have put bone plates on who then heal so quickly and with so little discomfort. It’s good to see them walking normally again.”
Dr. Tancher has been married for 18 years and he and his wife have three children. His family also shares their home with three dogs, Hoku Lele, a Siberian Husky; Harley Quinn, an English Bloodhound; Kai, a Golden Retriever; and Yoshi and Louie, two rescue domestic shorthair felines. In his spare time, Dr. Tancher enjoys skiing, fishing, hiking, weight lifting, and Kenpo Karate, in which he has a Black Belt.
